This is because horses respond to both spoken and non-spoken communication using reins and the rider’s legs to direct them. Taking part in this system of communication may provide some of the therapeutic benefits of working with a horse. (Horses are not on property)
Culinary Life Skills
In the effort of exhibiting an environment of normalcy we provide each youth to become comfortable in the kitchen. The house parents will be teaching the importance of reading recipe, following directions, and choosing healthy food choices. Teaching this life skill is very vital in the development of youths in the process of preparing them to be successful in life.
Early Childhood Prevention
South Carolina’s teen birth rate has declined by 70% since peaking in 1991, continuing decades of success for communities across the state. This includes a 9% decrease from 2016 to 2017, landing the teen birth rate for 15-19 year olds at 21.7 per 1,000 females. Older youth (18-19 year olds) continue to drive the overall South Carolina teen birth rate, currently making up 75% of all teen births. (Angel Wings Foundations Campaign) we train youth-serving individuals in programs that emphasize abstinence as well as knowledge about effective forms of birth control and condom use among sexually active teens. This is critical to not only preventing teen pregnancy, but also STDs and HIV.
Financial Management
Did you know that 18 to 24-year old are the fastest growing age group filing for bankruptcy? The struggles of the economy have put heavy emphasis on the importance of educating today’s youth towards preparing for a secure financial future. By establishing how to make smart monetary choices and understanding basic financial principles, we can be sure that the children and young adults of today have the tools for success to achieve a stable economic tomorrow.
Computer Literacy
Computer literacy is the ability to use computers and related technology efficiently, with a range of skills covering levels from elementary use to programming and advanced problem solving. Computer literacy can also refer to the comfort level someone has with using computer programs and other applications that are associated with computers.
